When you see one of your footballing icons score a fantastic goal, do you ever wonder how they even thought of it?
Well the answer is they practice them like everything else, constantly trying to pull off sublime skills or flicks in training.
Now, Wojciech Szczesny is never really going to need to do this in a game situation, but it got GMF thinking.
How many videos have you seen on the internet of famous players scoring brilliant goals in training? Lots, that’s how many.
GMF have decided to take on the difficult task of looking through them all and picking out our favourites.
We picked five. Here they are:
The Arsenal starlet and soon to be new senior England international gave people a taste of what he can do in an England Under-21 training session.
‘The Ox’ was taking part in a shooting drill and reeled off four stunning strikes from distance in a row. Not bad.
We are used to seeing Richards make towering clearances in the box, but this bicycle kick was something out of the ordinary for the big defender.
Joe Hart has seen an effort like that go past him before.
‘The Iceman’ always had plenty of class about him and we’ve seen him find out unsuspecting goalkeepers in the past.
It’s one thing doing it in your prime, but it’s another doing it in a training session as a 42-year-old. He is also still at it in Ajax veterans matches – class.
The young Dutch winger has had his troubles recently with injury, restricting his playing time at Barcelona. Afellay was a favourite with the fans of his old club PSV Eindhoven due to his mazy dribbling.
One training session with the Eredivise side saw him pull something quite extraordinary out of the bag. It took GMF a while to work out what he had done; we found immense satisfaction once we had.
Arguably the greatest player of his generation, Zidane could produce sublime moments almost at will in competitive matches.
The young goalkeeper in this training session with the retired Real Madrid Galactico must already have been in awe. He probably didn’t need the World Cup winner making him look a tad silly in front of his mates.
There we have it, a bit of fun for your Friday. What are your favourite training ground clips? Leave a comment below to let us know.
One last tip from GMF – we suggest you do try this at home.
