Glen Johnson and Danny Welbeck are unlikely to take part in England’s first game under Roy Hodgson as the pair continue to struggle with injury having limped off in training on Thursday.

Hodgson confirmed on Friday that Rob Green, Andy Carroll and Scott Parker would all start the game in Oslo, while Steven Gerrard has already been confirmed as Three Lions captain.

Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy has been ruled out of Euro 2012 with a broken finger, while Martin Kelly was called up as a late replacement for Johnson and will win his first cap should he be called into action. Four Chelsea players involved in the Champions League final are missing from the squad.

Gerrard wants winning start

Steven Gerrard says he is targeting a morale-boosting win against Norway on Saturday as England begin their preparations for Euro 2012 under new boss Roy Hodgson.

Hodgson was announced as the new Three Lions boss little more than three weeks ago and since then has named his squad for the tournament in Poland and Ukraine this summer, with the former Fulham and West Brom boss handing Gerrard the captains armband.

Now the Liverpool midfielder is keen to start his stint as England skipper with a bang and get the ball rolling on what he hopes will be a memorable summer.

"Of course, it's nice to be named the official captain and it's a fresh start," he told reporters.

"It's something I dreamed of as a young boy and I want to make the most of it. I want to be remembered as a successful captain. Throughout the qualifying campaign we have shown we are a good team and I hope we can continue that going into the tournament.

"All we can do is give it our best shot and see what we can do. We are playing for England and that comes with its own pressure and responsibility.

"It's a fresh start and everyone is trying to impress. Everyone has been given a boost and it would be nice to get a win (against Norway) to give us a lift.

"We don't have to be one of the favourites to win the tournament - look at Chelsea in the Champions League this season."

England will follow their friendly against Norway this evening with a game against Belgium at Wembley on June 2 ahead of their Euro 2012 opener against France on June 11.
