Manchester United tormentor Fernando Llorente has emerged as a summer target for Arsenal as Arsene Wenger makes further plans to reinforce his forward ranks.

The 27-year-old Athletic Bilbao striker has netted 24 times in 48 appearances for club and country this season and is likely to feature prominently for Spain at the European Championships this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are trailing Llorente but may have to depart with around £28 million in order to bring him to the Emirates Stadium during the transfer window.

Wenger has already recruited Lukas Podolski to provide Arsenal with more potent goalscoring options, and doubts over the future of Gunners captain Robin van Persie may lead the Frenchman to look at Llorente with greater interest.

Llorente has frequently been linked with a move to the Premier League over the past 12 months or so, and his performances in the Europa League against Manchester United allowed him to further stake a claim for a transfer to England.

The Spain international scored at Old Trafford and at San Mames as Bilbao upset Sir Alex Ferguson's side to secure a passage into the last eight of the competition.
