Eden Hazard has revealed he will be joining Chelsea this summer after the two-time Ligue 1 Player of the Year ended months of speculation.
The Belgian international promised to reveal the identity of the club he had chosen yesterday, after taking to Twitter to tell his followers he had made up his mind. After weeks of rumours and second-guessing, Hazard tweeted last night that he would be joining "the Champions League winners."
The news came as a disappointment to Manchester United and Manchester City, who both felt they were in a strong position to land the Lille star. But Chelsea's last-ditch qualification for the Champions League - through victory over Bayern Munich in the final - proved decisive for Hazard.
The Ligue 1 sensation was also looking for assurances over his playing position, and the Belgian is keen to continue playing in the attacking midfield role which netted him 20 goals and 15 assists in the French league last season.
But, the Blues also have a number of options in this area, and Hazard faces stiff competition at Stamford Bridge, with Juan Mata and new signing Marko Marin also favouring the "number 10" role.
Although there has been no official announcement from Chelsea yet, the transfer fee is believed to be in the region of £32million and Hazard is expected to sign a five-year deal, but Chelsea's summer spending spree may not end with the capture of the prized Belgian. Roman Abramovich is keen to build on this year's European success, and is prepared to invest heavily to reinvigorate an ageing squad.
The Stamford Bridge side are eager to bring in another forward after the departure of Didier Drogba and although Radamel Falcao, Edinson Cavani and Gonzalo Higuain have all been linked, the current favourite is Porto forward Hulk.
