Robin van Persie admits he is unsure of whether he will be handed a regular start for the Netherlands Euro 2012 campaign.
Van Persie was comfortably the Premier League’s top scorer last season, finding the back of the net 30 times as Arsenal secured automatic Champions League qualification.
However despite his excellent form for the Gunners, Klass Jan-Huntelaar has excelled this season, scoring 39 goals in total for Schalke.
With the Dutch expected to operate with only one forward during the tournament coach Bert van Marwijk has a selection headache ahead of his side’s first game against Denmark on June 9.
While Van Persie was given the nod for the Netherlands warm up victory against Slovakia last week, the Arsenal man is adamant he is not assured of a starting spot.
"I do not know if I am the No.1 striker," he told OnsOranje. "I really do not know.
"Nobody knows that yet. Van Marwijk will go for a striker who works well with the midfield, but that can also be Klaas.
"In recent years, he has developed very well, but I can develop too. There is always room for improvement," he added.
While Van Persie concentrates on Euro 2012 his future hit the headlines today after Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini revealed he would like to sign the 28-year-old should he reject Arsenal’s offer to extend his contract beyond next summer.
