Barcelona could be ready to raid Arsenal once more and try to lure Thomas Vermaelen away from Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners’ influential defender could be the next candidate for a move to the Catalan side after their negotiations with AC Milan over Thiago Silva stalled, according to the Daily Mail.
Arsene Wenger will unlikely be pleased to hear of the recently deposed La Liga champions sniffing around his squad once more – Arsenal reluctantly agreed to let former captain Cesc Fabregas move to Camp Nou last summer.
Brazilian Silva is reportedly top of new coach Tito Vilanova’s summer shopping list, but the £30million they are said to have put aside for his transfer may not be enough and they are looking at alternatives.
Their interest in the Arsenal vice-captain comes just a few days after he pledged his future to the north Londoners, insisting he was more than happy with his current situation.
“I will stay at Arsenal forever. There will be no transfer for me,” he said before Belgium’s friendly with England.
“I love London. I’ve got a house there, I’m happy there and I don’t see any reason to ever leave the club.”
Despite his assertions, the opportunity to move to Barcelona may prove to be too good to turn down.
