Manchester United look set to miss out on Valencia’s Jordi Alba as Spanish newspaper Sport suggest the Valencia full-back is on the verge of securing a move to Barcelona.
Manchester United are in the market for a new left-back as a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra, with Everton’s Leighton Baines said to be on the Red Devils’ radar.
United have been linked with a move for Alba for some time as have Barca, with the Spanish international proving to be a more realistic target than Tottenham’s Gareth Bale, who would cost in the region of £40 million, for the Catalan club.
Although Alba is away with Spain preparing for Euro 2012 he is expected to complete his move to the Nou Camp in the coming days, with Barca's sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta and Valencia president Manuel Llorente currently discussing terms over the deal.
The 23-year-old is expected to cost Barcelona around £10 million while Manchester United will likely continue their pursuit of Baines, who could set them back as much as £20 million.
