Samir Nasri feels his decision to join big-spending Manchester City has been vindicated, after the Citizens pipped arch rivals Manchester United to claim the Premier League title on the final day of the season.

The France international was on the receiving end of a torrent of abuse from Arsenal fans after making the switch from the Emirates to the Etihad stadium last summer, with Nasri accused of only being interested in money.

But the 24-year-old has insisted that his decision to join Roberto Mancini's side was motivated by the prospect of challenging for major honours.

And, Nasri feels his point has been proven after City added to their FA Cup success from last season, while Arsenal's trophyless run continues - a spell that now stretches to seven years.

Speaking to France Football, Nasri said: "I am happy at Manchester City because I have my first title. Along with my representatives, I have always been convinced that I made the right decision in joining City.

"Even though I didn't play all of the time, I knew that I could improve as a player at City and win titles."

Nasri still struggles to understand why his high-profile switch caused such a stir in north London, adding: "The controversy regarding my decision was surprising. When you see a squad that includes the likes of (Carlos) Tevez, (Sergio) Aguero, (David) Silva, Yaya Toure and (Vincent) Kompany, you cannot say that I didn't move for sporting reasons."

The Manchester City playmaker is excited by the project currently in progress at the Etihad stadium, and Nasri believes City will continue to go from strength-to-strength over the coming seasons.

"I still believe that City are the club of the future. We hope to prove that next season, because building on success is the most difficult thing to do.

"We just need to improve in the Champions League. Some players didn't have the experience required last year, but next season will be much better."
