Schalke boss Huub Stevens has revealed that Liverpool are threatening their bid to land out-of-contract Chelsea star Salomon Kalou, reports talkSPORT.
The 26-year-old Ivorian international is set to become a free agent when his contract expires at the end of June, and has attracted interest from a host of clubs around Europe.
The Bundesliga outfit has already held talks with the want-away Blues winger, who made his final appearance for the Stamford Bridge club in the Champions League final victory over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
However, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is also keen to bring Kalou to Anfield, as he sets about strengthening his recently inherited Liverpool squad ahead of the 2012-13 campaign.
Arsenal and AC Milan are both long-term admirers of the in-demand African ace, while Newcastle have also been monitoring his situation, with a decision expected on the Chelsea star's future next week.
"Kalou is a Bosman player," explained Schalke boss Stevens. "It's obvious - there are many other clubs keen on him. Liverpool for example. But I know for sure he wants to move away from England. This might be our chance."
