Manchester United first team coach Rene Meulensteen believes Shinji Kagawa will shine for the Red Devils next season, describing the Japanese international as the ‘complete package’.

United announced a deal for Kagawa earlier this month for an undisclosed fee from Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund, believed to be around £17 million initially before rising to £22 million.

Kagawa earned himself a reputation for being one of the most dangerous players in Germany during his two year spell there, and Meulensteen believes he can only improve in a red shirt.

"I rank Kagawa very highly,” Meulensteen told Goal.com. "He’s a player that I've known for a while because I keep an eye on the German Bundesliga. He's done very well over there. I think he's a player that will fit Manchester United and complement us.

"At Dortmund, Kagawa played behind the striker, which is a good position for him to play. He's got great movement, a great way to find spaces.

"He gets behind the opposition in the midfield which means that he can help in possession or be direct in moving forward. He can play the ball quick, one touch or two touch.

"He can create chances and he can score goals, he's got the complete package of what you would want from an attacking midfielder.

"He can also play on either wing or even deeper in the midfield. So, he's a very versatile player."

Kagawa looks likely to go into his first season as a Manchester United player after a prolonged period of rest, after it was confirmed he would sit out the Olympic football tournament this summer.

All United players over 23 aside from Ryan Giggs have been ruled out of representing Team GB, while Javier Hernandez will also miss the tournament.

Now the Japanese FA have confirmed they intend on giving Kagawa a rest in order to prepare himself for his move to United as well as Japan’s final 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
