Manchester United are planning a sensational double bid for Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale and Luka Modric, according to the Metro.
The two players have both been long-term targets for the Red Devils, but United are thought to believe the opportunity is right following the departure of Harry Redknapp. The uncertainty currently surrounding the north London club could prompt bids from a number of Europe’s top clubs, but United are believed to be leading the chase for the star duo.
Croatian international Modric came close to leaving White Hart Lane last summer, with Chelsea thought to be most interested, but chairman Daniel Levy managed to fend off the interest.
But Spurs missed out on qualification for the Champions League this season, which could lead both players to explore options away from Tottenham.
United are in the market for a central midfielder, and the 26-year-old Modric is reportedly high on their list of targets. Interest in Bale is also likely to be high, with title rivals Manchester City and Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid also keen on the Welshman.
