Branislav Ivanovic believes Luka Modric is the ideal player to improve Chelsea's squad this summer and has urged the Croatian midfielder to consider a move to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues strived desperately to secure the signature of Modric last summer but failed in as many as three bids to lure him away from Tottenham.
Modric handed in a transfer request in an attempt to engineer a move across London, but Daniel Levy stood firm and retained the services of the supremely gifted 26-year-old.
Twelve months on and the future of Modric as a Spurs player looks in doubt once again, and the Croatia international has been linked with transfers to Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Ivanovic, however, says Modric would be best served resisting the overtures of United and Real and instead swap north London for west London by completing a move to Chelsea.
"I don't know much about it other than what I read in the media," the Blues defender told Sportske Novosti. "I know there was interest in the transfer window before. Chelsea as a team have needed a player with these qualities.
"He would fit in quickly and strengthen the squad.
"He has been in England a long time and knows about the way football is played on the island and the mentality of the players. He has exceptional quality, and moving to a bigger club is necessary for him to take the next step in his career.
"I think at Chelsea he would adapt instantly and become a better player. He should come to Chelsea - it won't go wrong!"
Chelsea have already completed the signing of German midfielder Marko Marin, while they beat Manchester United and Manchester City to the signature of highly-rated Belgian Eden Hazard.
