Alba to sign for Barcelona
Barcelona transfer news: Barca to sign Manchester United target Jordi Alba from Valencia
Jordi Alba will have double cause for celebration this summer if Spain can triumph in the final of Euro 2012, after it was confirmed the full-back is to join Barcelona from Valencia.
Alba has been a mainstay of Vicente Del Bosque's Spain side at the European Championships, and helped to ensure Spain reached a third successive final in a major tournament with victory over Portugal.
The 23-year-old has significantly enhanced his reputation over the past 12 months and has reportedly been tracked by Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
However, Barcelona have triumphed in pursuit of the versatile left-sided player and confirmed on Thursday that they had agreed a fee of €14 million with Valencia.
"FC Barcelona can announce that it has reached an agreement today with Valencia CF for the transfer of player Jordi Alba, pending the player’s medical examination when he comes to the city of Barcelona next week," read a statement on the official Barcelona website.
Alba is the first major signing of the Tito Vilanova era at the Nou Camp after the departure of Pep Guardiola at the end of the season.
The former Barcelona midfielder stepped down from his position in order to take some time away from the game, and won 14 trophies during his time as manager.
