Spurs' £100m – who should they buy?

Former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas will reportedly get £100million to spend in his new job in charge of Tottenham Hotspur.

A report in The Sun claims an initial £40million kitty will be complimented by any funds recouped from player sales, so the reported departures of Luka Modric and Rafael van der Vaart could take it up to the £100million being stated.

That is certainly an attractive amount of pocket money, but who would the Portuguese spend it all on?

GMF have identified a number of targets that could make up for the losses of Modric and Van der Vaart, while adding to the arrival of Gylfi Sigurdsson from under the noses of Liverpool.

Hugo Lloris, Lyon

The France captain has always claimed to be happy with the struggling former Ligue 1 champions, but comments from his agent about interest from European clubs suggest he may be ready to move on. 40-year-old Brad Friedel is current number one at White Hart Lane, so a younger long-term option may be a wise purchase.

Joao Moutinho, Porto

Moutinho was possibly Portugal’s most influential player after Cristiano Ronaldo at Euro 2012, and he has been mooted as a possible replacement for Spurs’ departing Croatian playmaker. The 25-year-old played under Villas-Boas in his record-breaking year as Porto coach and has expressed an interest in doing so again, though Manchester United have also been linked with an approach.

Daniel Sturridge, Chelsea

Sturridge has fallen out of favour at Chelsea since Roberto di Matteo took over, but he was a regular starter when Villas-Boas was in charge. There have been rumours of his unhappiness at the current situation and Chelsea’s aggressive recruitment policy for wide positions this summer could mean they are open to bids.

Jan Vertonghen, Ajax

The Belgium international’s transfer to Spurs has been supposedly ‘imminent’ for some time, but there is reportedly now an issue over a selling on fee with his current club. Vertonghen is a highly-rated centre-back and has expressed his desire to complete the switch to White Hart Lane, but the delay could allow other suitors in.

Oscar, Internacional

The 20-year-old was poised to join QPR in January, but the move collapsed after he was denied a work permit. Now reports are suggesting Villas-Boas has earmarked the Brazilian international as a possible signing, and him appearing in all of their last four internationals will boost a new permit application.

Alan Dzagoev, CSKA Moscow

The Russia playmaker showed flashes of brilliance in Euro 2012, where he scored three goals. He is now being tipped for a summer transfer after rejecting a new contract offer from CSKA, but Villas-Boas will have to fight off the advances of fellow north Londoners Arsenal, who have also been credited with an interest.

Do you think these players would improve the Tottenham squad? Who would you like Andre Villas-Boas to spend his transfer budget on?
