LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham is set to face Chelsea after being named in the MLS All-Star XI that will play against the Blues as part of the club's pre-season tour of North America later this month.
The 38-year-old former England captain is joined by Arsenal legend and New York Red Bulls striker Thierry Henry, as well as Galaxy team-mate Landon Donovan, who has enjoyed recent loan spells in the Premier League with Everton.
Donovan will make a record 12th All-Star appearance, but there is no question that from an English perspective, Beckham remains the star attraction for a fixture that will be played in Philadelphia on July 25.
Beckham's disappointment at not being selected to represent Team GB at the 2012 London Olympics is still raw, but his inclusion in the All-Star squad courtesy of an MLS fans' vote, should help lift his spirits.
That said, Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard became the latest player to join the chorus of support, speaking in Los Angeles where he was spotted alongside Beckham taking in a recent MLS game.
"After the way he was so heavily involved in getting the Games to London then yes I did think he would be playing at the Olympics," he explained. "I know what Becks is like — he is so passionate about his country.
"I know he would have gone full pelt for Team GB. And I think his big personality and presence would have been a major plus for the squad.
"So it was a big surprise to me when he was left out especially after he was included in the initial squad."
The All-Star game at PPL Park is already a complete sell-out, but will be broadcast live on Chelsea TV to fans across the world.
It will be the third game of four on Chelsea's US tour, following matches in Seattle and New York, before Roberto Di Matteo's sides final game in Miami.
