Liverpool are reportedly closing on a deal for Fulham forward Clint Dempsey as Brendan Rodgers sets about reinforcing the Reds squad he inherited from Kenny Dalglish.
Dempsey produced his finest season in English football last term as he scored 23 goals in 45 appearances and, it would appear, could be rewarded for his exploits with a high-profile move.
Rodgers revealed on Monday that he was nearing an agreement for his first signing as Liverpool boss, with the informed opinion that this acquisition will be Roma striker Fabio Borini.
However, according to the Evening Standard, Rodgers could push through a deal for Dempsey as early as Wednesday, with a fee of £7.5 million reported to be enough to claim his signature.
It is suggested that Fulham are prepared to sell the 29-year-old USA international, who has only one year remaining on his current contract, and Martin Jol is open to a possible part-exchange deal including some Anfield fringe players.
