Liverpool interest in Serie A striker confirmed

Roma have confirmed that Liverpool are interested in signing Italy international Fabio Borini, who could become the first signing of the Brendan Rodgers era at the club.

Rodgers has previously worked with the 21-year-old striker on two occasions, firstly during a spell in Chelsea's academy, and latterly during his time as Swansea manager.

Borini scored six times in nine starts during the Swans' push for promotion little over a year ago, while he found the net on nine occasions during his first season with Roma.

Rodgers told a press conference on Monday that he was hoping to complete the signing of an 'exciting' player in the next week or so, thought to be Borini, and Roma have since confirmed the interest of Liverpool.

"There is a real interest shown by Liverpool for Borini," Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini said during a press briefing on Tuesday.

"We are evaluating the situation with [Roma general manager] Franco [Baldini]."

Roma only finalised a deal for Borini last month after paying close to £4 million to acquire the remaining 50 percent of his player's rights, but could be shipped out immediately in order to fund a move for Siena striker Mattia Destro.
