Newcastle fail in Carroll approach

Liverpool have rejected an audacious move by Newcastle to bring Andy Carroll back to St James Park on loan it emerged this weekend.

Carroll, who looks set to leave Anfield be it on loan or a permanently, is also a target for West Ham United, Fulham and, reportedly, AC Milan.

Andre Villas-Boas has hit out at Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, comparing him unfavourably with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

Elsewhere, Gary Neville has warned Manchester City that rivals United will be back stronger than ever next season after their title heartbreak.


In today's transfer news, Dimitar Berbatov has announced on Facebook that it is "better for everyone" that he leaves Manchester United. (BBC Sport)
