New Chelsea signings Marko Marin and Eden Hazard were among the scorers as the Blues beat MLS side Seattle Sounders 4-2 to kick off their pre-season tour of America.

Young Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku led the line impressively at CenturyLink Field and opened the scoring for Roberto di Matteo’s side in the third minute following a pass from Josh McEachran.

£32million man Hazard doubled the Stamford Bridge club’s lead with a deflected effort in the 10th minute and the Londoners looked to be cruising.

However, the Sounders were soon level thanks to a smart finish by Colombian striker Fredy Montero in the 13th minute, following a misplaced McEachran pass, and again just after the half hour.

Marin was on hand to restore Chelsea’s lead in the 39th minute, though there was more than an element of fortune in it as his wayward shot took a massive deflection.

Lukaku rounded the ‘keeper just before half time to complete his brace and a very entertaining first half.

Di Matteo also started with first team regulars Branislav Ivanovic, David Luiz and John Obi Mikel, but a raft of second half substitutes meant the goal-fest of the first period was not repeated.
