It’s not as if Andres Iniesta needs much help now is it. Fresh off the back of being named as the player of the tournament at Euro 2012, the Barcelona genius is now gearing up for a new season with his club with a secret weapon on his feet – a brand new pair of Nike boots designed with him in mind.
The brand-spanking new CTR 360 Maestri III boots have been “reengineered to deliver enhanced control, traction, support and lightweight comfort” and have been tailored to suit the playmakers of this world according to Nike- but what does that actually mean?
Well, the American sports firm claim the likes of Iniesta will feel the benefit in their passing game thanks to what are essentially rubber fins that protrude from the side – think of what Adidas did with their Predator boots about twenty years ago but on the side rather than on the front you have the right idea.
Nike also boast the ability to use their new footwear in both dry and wet conditions thanks to their “All Conditions Control (ACC) technology” which is a real bonus and means that when the rain falls on the plains in Spain Iniesta’s control stays the same.
The usual bumf is all there too – there are asymmetrical laces, a dimpled texture and a new material called ‘Kanga-lite’ for assured touch and durability, while Nike win brownie points for the inclusion of rounded studs on one side of the boot and blades on the other in order to assist the twisting and turning midfield maestro.
So how do they stack up? Well they look pretty good to us but will set you back an equally pretty penny – in the UK expect to part ways with around £105 to get your hands on a pair - and while some of the features on the boot appear to be all style and no substance, the texturized fins on the side and different studs have us sold.
And there is also an extra incentive for Arsenal fans to snap up a pair – Nike say that not only were they made with Iniesta in mind, but are the perfect companion for Jack Wilshere when he makes his long-awaited return to action next season. Who says it's all doom and gloom around the Emirates at the moment?
