Marko Marin is a doubt with a hamstring strain, but Ocar, Eden Hazard and Branislav Ivanovic are all available for selection, witht he latter two handed starting spots.

Di Matteo hopes for award winning Oscar

Roberto di Matteo says he has high expectations of Chelsea new-boy Oscar, who has been named as a substitute for the game against Wigan this afternoon.

Oscar has spent much of his summer away on international duty with Brazil, where he impressed during the Olympic football tournament.

That limited Di Matteo’s opportunities to work with Oscar in the build-up to Chelsea’s first game of the new season.

However the 20-year-old participated in his first training session for his new club on Friday and Di Matteo admitted he was impressed with what he saw.

“He is a goal-scoring midfielder, a creative midfielder as well,” he told Chelseafc.com.

“In his career so far he has played on the left side, he has played there with the national team, and he has played behind the strikers and the number 8 role as well in a three-man midfield - so he is quite versatile.

“He had a very good Olympic tournament and he is a young man as well, let's not forget that, and I think he will be a very good addition for us.

“He has broken through to the senior Brazil team at a young age and you need personality to achieve that,” he added.

With Ramires out of action, Oscar could have been handed a start at the DW Stadium, although Di Matteo has opted for an attacking unit of Juan Mata and Eden Hazard behind Fernando Torres.
