Former Arsenal captain Robin van Persie is expected to be given his first start for Manchester United.

Phil Jones, Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Rio Ferdinand are all still unavailable so Alexander Buttner, who joined this week from Vitesse, is likely to be on the bench.

Fulham are still without Clint Dempsey after Martin Jol decided to leave the American striker out of his squad once again as his proposed move to Liverpool continues to attract controversy.

Also missing for the Cottagers are Kerim Frei and Philippe Senderos, but Zdenek Grygera has recovered from injury.

Ferguson: United must make impact

Sir Alex Ferguson has outlined the importance of a speedy Manchester United recovery following their defeat against Everton on Monday evening.

The Toffees were deserved winners at Goodison Park as Maroaune Fellaini's goal made an early dent in United's Premier League title aspirations.

Facing Fulham at Old Trafford on Saturday represents a more straightforward task than United's last outing, although the Cottagers will be riding high following their 5-0 thrashing of Norwich last weekend.

Ferguson was at Craven Cottage to see Martin Jol's side rout the Canaries, and is fully aware of the threat Fulham will pose.

"I went to see Fulham last Saturday and they played very well," said Ferguson.

"It's a football club that's grown tremendously since Roy (Hodgson) got them to the Europa League final (in 2010).

"The place is buzzing with a full house every week and there's a good atmosphere around the place.

"They have a lot of experience in their team. It won't be an easy game, but we're at home and we need to make an impact quickly after losing on Monday night, and we expect that."
