Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe has ended the uncertainty surrounding his future by signing a new contract with the north London club.

Defoe's place at Spurs appeared to be in doubt after the Barclays Premier League side were linked with a number of other strikers, but the 29-year-old has decided to stay at White Hart Lane.

Shortly after being called up to the England squad for their qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine, the striker tweeted: "Fantastic week signed my new contract at spurs & meeting up with England on Monday for 2 important games #goalsgoalsgoals."
