Reds start defence on the road

Liverpool will begin their defence of the Capital One Cup with a trip to West Brom in the third round.

Baggies boss Steve Clarke was assistant manager to Kenny Dalgish as the Reds lifted the cup in Wembley in February with victory over Cardiff.

Manchester United also face top-flight opposition in their bid for silverware, with Alan Pardew's Newcastle set to visit Old Trafford - the first game out of the hat in Thursday's draw.
