Sir Alex Ferguson has wasted no time in drawing up plans for the January transfer window, with reports claiming the Manchester United manager will move for Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao.

The 23-year-old has seen his star continually rise over the past 12 months, and made himself known to a global audience as he ended the Olympics as the tournament's top goalscorer.

Tottenham have been tracking Damiao for some time and even had a bid rejected for the forward last week, while the youngster was offered to Liverpool on loan.

Brendan Rodgers, however, opted against the chance to bring Damiao to Anfield, and Manchester United would now appear to be leading the race for his signature.

According to the Daily Mail, United manager Ferguson is already lining up a January move for the Brazil international only days after the close of the summer transfer window.

Ferguson improved his strike-force with the acquisition of Arsenal captain Robin van Persie last month, but it would seem the Scot will further bolster at the next available opportunity.
