Chelsea duo John Terry and Ashley Cole are both unavailable, while club-mate Daniel Sturridge could also miss out through illness.

Arsenal's Theo Walcott has been ruled out with a sickness bug, and Roy Hodgson has called-up uncapped duo Raheem Sterling and Adam Lallana as cover.

Jake Livermore was also a late addition to the squad, although none of the latter three are expected to appear against Ukraine at Wembley.

Hodgson: England youngsters being held back

Roy Hodgson admits that the player pool at his disposal is diminishing, as highlighted by the need to add two uncapped players to his squad for England's World Cup qualifier with Ukraine.

Liverpool's Raheem Sterling, 17, and 24-year-old Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana were called-up on Monday after Theo Walcott was ruled out and Daniel Sturridge struck down by illness.

Tottenham youngster Jake Livermore, who has only one cap, was also included as the absentee list grew, and Hodgson said that England's youngsters are being held back by an influx of talent from overseas.

"The Premier League is fantastic. But it embraces all the top European players," he explained.

"One of the other facts we can't deny is the top clubs know where the best talent is, and often go out and buy it.

"That top talent, at a young age, finds it difficult to break into the team because of the established European talent in front of them."
