Manchester United v Wigan Athletic; Premier League; Old Trafford; Saturday September 15; KO: 1500
Sir Alex Ferguson has named Darren Fletcher in a Manchester United squad for the first time in ten months.
The Scottish midfielder was suffering fro a serious bowel problem, but has been making steady progress for the past few weeks.
New signings Robin van Persie and Shinji Kagawa have shaken off thigh and back injuries respectively and are expected to start, though Ashley Young is still a doubt with a knee injury – Wayne Rooney remains on the sidelines with a gashed leg.
Roberto Martinez has doubts over full-back Jean Beausejour and Antolin Alcaraz, but James McArthur is expected to be available after suffering a slight back injury.
Ferguson calls for end to offensive chants
Sir Alex Ferguson has called on Manchester United and Liverpool fans to end offensive chanting that has affected clashes between the two clubs.
United have been criticised for singing about the Hillsborough disaster, while Liverpool fans chanting about the Munich air disaster has also brought much criticism.
Ferguson hopes this week’s shocking revelations of a Police cover-up over the disaster at Hillsborough, where 96 fans were crushed to death, will convince supporters of both sides to stop.
“You'd hope that this is a line in the sand in terms of how the fans behave with one another,” said the Old Trafford boss.
“We are two great clubs and we should understand each other's problems in the past. Certainly the reputation of both clubs doesn't deserve it.
“Both clubs have suffered fatalities through football. You hope that fans do behave themselves and support their team and that will be the end of it."
