Ryan Giggs believes Robin van Persie and Shinji Kagawa will help Manchester United enjoy success in the Champions League this year.
United tumbled out of the competition at the group stages last year, only the third time in 17 years they have failed to reach the knockout stages, while they would later go on to miss out on claiming a 20th league title by just one point.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has bolstered his squad over the summer in an attempt to avoid a similar fate, with the Scot splashing around £40 million on Van Persie and Kagawa.
Now Giggs, who made his 600th league appearance for United on Saturday, says he is confident both players can have a positive affect on the Red Devils European campaign, starting with their tie against Galatasaray this evening.
“Robin has the experience of playing in Europe with Arsenal," the 38-year-old said.
"The goals he has got will hopefully give us that extra edge this season.”
Of Kagawa, the Welshman said: Shinji is that kind of player who will thrive in Europe, where possession is key.
"He keeps the ball and gets into positions where he is hard to pick up.
"I am sure they will both be very good additions in Europe for us."
Neither Van Persie or Kagawa were fit to start in United’s 4-0 win over Wigan at the weekend having picked up knocks while away on international duty, however both should feature at Old Trafford this evening.
