Besiktas winger Ricardo Quaresma has reportedly paved the way for a move to Liverpool after rejecting an offer of a new contract from his current employers.

The 28-year-old Portugal international has just 12 months remaining on his current deal, and his reluctance to sign an extension has angered the club's hierarchy.

According to Metro, Liverpool could now resurrect their interest in Quaresma having initially failed with an attempt to bring the former Inter Milan player to Anfield during the summer.

Should Quaresma move to Liverpool, he will compete alongside the likes of Raheem Sterling and Fabio Borini in wide positions, while his arrival could spell the end of Stewart Downing as a Red.

Quaresma already has Premier League experience having spent a spell on loan with Chelsea during the brief tenure of Guus Hiddink, although he did not impress enough to earn a permanent deal.

The Portuguese made just four appearances in the league before he returned to Inter, while he signed for Besiktas in 2010.
