Torres ranked as top 10 striker

Chelsea forward Fernando Torres has been ranked as one of the Premier League's deadliest strikers.

The Spaniard has scored two goals from four shots on target, giving him a 50% strike ratio, one of the best rates in the Premier League.

That puts him ninth in the Premier League striker table, behind Sunderland's Steven Fletcher, Tottenham's Jermain Defoe and Manchester United's Robin Van Persie among others.

Sunderland's new signing Steven Fletcher and Arsenal's Gervinho have the best goals ratio - both have 100% strike rates. Fletcher has four goals from four shots on target, while Gervinho has two goals from two on target, according to a recent talkSPORT feature.

Torres enjoyed a bright start to the season, with goals in the Charity Shield against Manchester City, and against Reading and Newcastle in the Premier League.

But since then his form as tailed off slightly, and the Spanish international failed to score against QPR, Juventus or Stoke.

But the £50m striker finally looks like he's on an upward trajectory, if still some way off his Liverpool best. At times last season, Torres looked like a different player, sluggish, unhappy and ineffective, but his performances this campaign have been encouraging for Chelsea fans.

Chelsea face Wolves this evening in the Capital One Cup, but Torres could be rested with an important fixture against Arsenal this Saturday.

Roberto Di Matteo's side sit top of the Premier League table and could open up a seven point lead over Arsene Wenger's Gunners with victory at the Emirates Stadium.
