Manchester United are preparing a £20 million bid for Marouane Fellaini – despite the Everton midfielder insisting he is happy to stay put.
Fellaini has been in superb form this season to help Everton climb up to third in the Premier League table, and excelled in their opening day victory over Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.
The Belgium international was quoted last month as saying that this season would be his last for the Toffees and that he could even move on in January, something he has since denied saying.
Now Fellaini has moved to dispel rumours he could leave Goodison Park once more.
'I am happy here. I play for a great club, with great players and wonderful fans. Every season I get better,' he said.
However according to the Metro, Manchester United are prepared to test his resolve to stay on Merseyside with a £20 million bid during the January transfer window.
The Red Devils have long been linked with a move for reinforcements in the midfield area, and Fellaini could be the man for the job given his copious Premier League experience.
The news of Manchester United’s interest may alert Chelsea, who have also been linked with a move for the 24-year-old and could also make a move in the January transfer window.
The Blues haven’t been afraid to splash the cash in recent months and could be in the market for a central midfielder in January given the fact that Michael Essien left on loan to Real Madrid over the summer.
Frank Lampard was a substitute for Chelsea’s narrow win over Stoke on Saturday, with Roberto di Matteo admitting the midfielder needed to be rested in order to keep him fresh for the duration of the season.
