Dutch star availability alerts United
Manchester United transfer news: Kevin Strootman available, says aganet
Manchester United have been alerted to the availability of PSV Eindhoven’s Kevin Strootman, who has been labelled the new Roy Keane, after his agent revealed he will leave the Dutch club in January.
United have been tracking the 22-year-old for some time now and could be willing to make a move in January, something that will be made immediately easier by his agent’s admission.
Manchester United’s troubles in midfield are well documented, and since the departure of Owen Hargreaves they have been short of a genuine defensive midfielder.
Although Paul Scholes’ return to action last season has helped ease their midfield headache the 37-year-old is due to hang up his boots once more at the end of the current term.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s other options in the middle of the park, namely Anderson and Michael Carrick have hardly set the world alight while Phil Jones and Darren Fletcher have been plagued by injuries, something that may force him to address the issue in January.
Speaking to Russian newspaper Izvestia, Strootman’s agent Chiel Dekker said: “Strootman has had a good time in Eindhoven, but we decided that he wants to prove himself in a better league.
“If an agreement is able to be reached with a potentially interested club, PSV will allow Kevin to leave in January.”
AC Milan and Zenit St Petersburg have also been linked with a move for Strootman, who joined PSV in 2011.
