Van Persie and Rooney set for reunion
Manchester United news: Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie could be reunited after former makes injury return
Wayne Rooney could return to Manchester United's starting line-up alongside Robin van Persie for the Premier League meeting with Tottenham this weekend after completing 76 minutes against Newcastle on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old striker has been sidelined for over a month after sustaining an horrific gash to his right thigh in United's defeat of Fulham at Old Trafford.
Although lacking in match fitness, Rooney impressed in the victory over in Newcastle, as goals from Tom Cleverley and Anderson ensured United progressed to the last 16 of the Capital One Cup.
Ferguson gave no indication as to whether Rooney would feature from the start against Spurs on Saturday but was clearly happy to have his foremost striker available for selection again.
Rooney, meanwhile, was pleased to be back in first team action having had to watch Van Persie regularly find the net for United in his absence, and will surely now be in contention for the weekend.
"It's been just over four weeks since I last played and I'm delighted to be back out on the pitch," Rooney said.
"I feel good, obviously it's always difficult in your first game back after a few weeks but it's great to get the minutes under my belt and hopefully that can benefit me."
