Neymar strike leads Santos to Recopa title

Published Add your comment

Neymar scored one - and missed a penalty - as Santos beat Universidad de Chile to claim the Recopa Sudamericana title.

The competition, which pits the winner of the Copa Libertadores against the winner of the Copa Sudamericana, is a two-legged clash designed to showcase the best teams in South America to the world.

And, sure enough, Neymar produced the goods on the big stage, scoring the first goal to break the deadlock after the first leg finished 0-0.

The Brazilian sensation played a one-two with striker Andre, and then finished beautifully into the bottom left-hand corner of the goal midway through the first-half.

Neymar missed the chance to double the advantage when his tame spot-kick was saved by Jhonny Herrera, but Bruno Rodrigo’s 56th minute header made sure of the win.

"It's another title for us. I'm extremely happy. A lot of people downplayed this competition but we took it very seriously, it was a trophy we had never won," said Neymar post-match.
