Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao is ready to compete with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for La Liga's Golden Boot - the Pichichi trophy - but reiterated that his main priority is to do well for his club.
The Colombian hit-man stressed in a recent interview he's completely focused on his own performances and is not looking to directly measure himself against his rivals at Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Challenging for the top-scorer title is, naturally something Falcao will strive to do. And, with seven goals already this term, in just five league appearances, the 26-year-old is already living up to his billing in Spain.
However, Falcao says that whilst personal success is always nice, helping Atletico to collective glory is what holds the biggest importance.
"I did not say I wanted to compete with Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi," he was quoted as saying by AS. "I simply want to score goals to help my team, nothing more. At the end we'll see where I am.
"The most important thing is that the team fulfils their objectives. We are competing with 19 other teams, not only against Madrid and Barca."
Atletico currently sit in second place in La Liga with 13 points from their first five games - two behind leaders Barcelona - and are already being talked about as potential challengers to the hegemony of Spain's big two clubs, with Real back in 7th place with seven points.
The Europa League champions, known as the "mattress makers" will have a chance for a rare taste of life at the top if Barca slip up at Sevilla on Saturday, and Atletico can win at Espanyol.
Diego Simeone, the club's manager, told reporters after his side's latest victory against Real Betis that neither he, nor his players would let their impressive early run go to their heads.
"We are not paying attention to the points but to the opponents we have to play against," confirmed the 42-year-old Argentine. "The Spanish championship is very tough, above all to win away. Our focus is already on Espanyol."
