Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has been named in the Argentina squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Chile.
The 25-year-old heads an 18-man list made up entirely of foreign-based players, but the squad is expected to be supplemented by the addition of local stars by national team coach Alejandro Sabella ahead of the Uruguay clash on October 12.
Argentina then travel to Chile four days later on October 16. They currently lead their South American qualifying group with 14 points from seven games, and are well positioned to claim a place at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
