Reported Chelsea and Liverpool target Seydou Doumbia is now being pursued by Newcastle, and Alan Pardew will have to splash £16 million to sign the CSKA Moscow striker.
Doumbia scored 57 goals in two seasons with Swiss club Young Boys before earning a move to Moscow in 2010, where he has found the net an impressive 49 times in 71 appearances.
This free-scoring form has seen the 24-year-old linked with a number of Europe's top clubs, most notably Chelsea and Liverpool, while he is also reportedly a target for Napoli and Lazio.
According to talkSPORT, the Italian duo are in a three-way battle with Newcastle to acquire the services of Doumbia and a fee has been set to sign the Ivorian forward.
Newcastle have posted scouts to CSKA's last three games to run the rule over Doumbia, and their interest would appear to be more serious than any of their Premier League rivals.
Liverpool, however, could be tempted to make a move for Doumbia in January given the depleted forward ranks at Anfield, with Luis Suarez the only proven striker available to Brendan Rodgers.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have still yet to adequately compensate for the departure of Didier Drogba, and Fernando Torres is coming under increasing pressure to score more regularly.
