Arsenal are reportedly interested in acquiring the services of FC Basel defender Aleksandar Dragovic after sending scouts to monitor the young Austrian.

Dragovic is regarded as one of the finest young talents to emerge from Austrian football for a number of years, and is becoming an increasingly important player for Basel.

Along with Arsenal, Inter Milan, Roma, Fiorentina, Borussia Dortmund, Werder Bremen, Stuttgart, Marseille and Norwich have all been linked with the 21-year-old, who has 14 caps for Austria.

According to Metro, Arsenal have ramped up their interest in Dragovic of late after Arsene Wenger instructed representatives to compile a report on the youngster.

The Gunners scouts will now make further checks on £5million-rated Dragovic before the January transfer window, and a bid could be tabled at the next available opportunity.

Should he join Arsenal, Dragovic would compete for a place alongside the likes of Thomas Vermaelen, Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker, but is more likely to be need as back-up by Wenger.
