Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is keeping tabs on 16-year-old Croatian sensation Alen Halilovic, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Old Trafford boss faces a battle with Real Madrid chief Jose Mourinho, who also likes the look of the teenager, who has already been labelled ‘the new Luka Modric.’

Manchester United manager Ferguson was linked with the ‘old’ Modric for much of this summer, but the Croatian international opted to swap Tottenham for Real Madrid instead.

But the United boss is reportedly determined not to miss out this time around. Halilovic is attracting interest from across Europe, with a good deal of the continent’s top clubs assessing his talent.

The Dinamo Zagreb midfielder has something of a reputation for scoring long-range wonder goals, and shares the same diminutive physique as the Real Madrid Modric.

The mop of blond hair, quick feet and keen eye for a pass make the comparisons inevitable.

Manchester United and Chelsea reportedly led the Premier League chase for the youngster, but the Daily Mirror reports Jose Mourinho, after signing Luka Modric this summer, is already lining up his successor.
