Chelsea & City target 'wants £400k a week'
Chelsea transfer news: Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo wants £400,000-a-week to stay at the Bernabeu
Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly wants to become the first footballer to earn £400,000 a week, according to ESPN.
The Real Madrid number seven has refused to reveal the reasons behind his 'sadness', and put that to one side at the weekend to score a hat-trick for Jose Mourinho's side.
Ronaldo insists his mood is not linked to his contract, but an ESPN insider reports the Madrid superstar wants £400,000 a week to commit to the La Liga champions.
In order for the Portuguese forward to earn a pay rise, Real Madrid would have massively increase his current deal because of Spain's new tax laws.
The Chelsea and Manchester City target has reportedly opened negotiations with Florentino Perez at the Bernabeu, but the Premier League clubs, along with big-spending PSG, are watching with interest.
Ronaldo's current deal expires in 2015, and he had been the world's best paid player when he moved to Madrid on a £200,000-a-week contract in 2009.
But since then the former-Manchester United star has slid down the best paid list, with Samuel Eto'o, Didier Drogba, Neymar and Wayne Rooney all taking home more per week.
ESPN reports Madrid also own 50% of Ronaldo's image rights, and last week it was suggested that the Portugal star's unhappiness stemmed from a desire to renegotiate this deal in his favour.
Chelsea, Manchester City and PSG would likely be the only clubs able to afford Ronaldo, who moved to the Bernabeu for a world record £80m fee in 2009.
Premier League champions Manchester City have insisted their big-spending days are over, but if the former-United forward became available they would likely be interested.
As would Chelsea, who have the finance providing owner Roman Abramovich sanctions a deal.
