Highly-rated goalkeeper Damian Martinez has insisted that he is ready to step up his game and become an integral figure at Arsenal.

The 20-year-old Argentine made his senior debut in the emphatic 6-1 League Cup victory over Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium last month, adding to his already impressive reputation in north London.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has shown great faith in a number of youth players, handing first-team opportunities to plenty of emerging talents, which has given Martinez reason for optimism moving forward.

Asked by Argentinian newspaper Ole about his chances of cementing his place in the Arsenal side, the South American stopper said: "I am working for that. They played me and I responded well, so they know they can rely on me.

"Arsene is very professional, and is very helpful. He treats the best player and the 17-year-old lad the same way. And he has the same demands. And if he has to play the kid that is better than the veteran, he will."

After signing for Arsenal from Independiente in 2010, Martinez has slowly moved up the ranks, but still faces competition from Wojciech Szczesny, Lukasz Fabianski and Vito Mannone when fit.

Still, the youngster is quietly confident about his chances of establishing himself, in a bid to break into the full international setup, under Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella.

"I know that, being in the Premier League, one day, Sabella is going to look at me," he added.
