Suarez told to follow Cristiano Ronaldo's example
Liverpool news: Jamie Redknapp advises Luis Suarez to follow Cristiano Ronaldo's example and cut out theatrics
Former-Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp has advised Reds striker Luis Suarez to follow the example set by Cristiano Ronaldo and cut out the threatics if he is to overcome his problem with referees.
The Liverpool forward has garnered a reputation for going down easily under contact. And against Norwich on Saturday that reputation came back to bite him as the Uruguayan was denied a penalty despite a clumsy challenge by Norwich centre-back Leon Barnett.
The former-Ajax striker still managed to bag a hat-trick at Carrow Road, but Reds boss Brendan Rodgers revealed afterwards he thinks Suarez doesn't "get the rub of the green" as he reputation for diving goes before him.
But Redknapp believes less theatrics from the Liverpool forward would help address the problem.
Writing in his Daily Mail column, Redknapp said: "He has to overcome the problem with referees assuming he has dived in the area.
"Less theatrics would help and he can do it. Cristiano Ronaldo overcame the same problem."
During his time in the Premier League with Manchester United, Ronaldo similarly earned a reputation for simulation.
His flamboyant dives and petulant antics led to criticism from the terraces and a feeling that he was often looking for contact, but in his final years at Old Trafford, Ronaldo seemingly matured, putting together 40-goal seasons and helping Manchester United to Premier Leagues and a Champions League in 2008.
And Redknapp feels Suarez can follow the example set by Ronaldo, ridding himself of his reputation for diving and letting his football do the talking.
