Barcelona & Real Madrid great warns United
Former Barcelona & Real Madrid star Gheorghe Hagi warns Manchester United ahead of Cluj clash
Former Real Madrid and Barcelona star Gheorghe Hagi has warned Manchester United not to underestimate his compatriots CFR Cluj when Sir Alex Ferguson’s side taken them on in the Champion League on Tuesday.
The Old Trafford club will travel to Romania on Monday and the Romanian legend believes the likes of Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Nemanja Vidic should be wary when they step onto the pitch in Transylvania.
“The Manchester (United) should be careful,” the 47-year-old told the Manchester Evening News.
“CFR (Cluj) are a very good team and they’ve won all five of their European games so far this season.
“They’re well organised by an experienced coach, Ioan Andone, and while they’re not at the top of the league because of injuries and the responsibility of playing in the Champions League, they’re a very strong side.”
Hagi is currently owner of Vlitorul Constanta, a rival of Cluj’s in the Romanian top flight, but he made his name playing for both Real Madrid and Barcelona in the early 90s and wowed the world at USA ’94, where they knocked out the Argentina on the way to a penalty shoot-out quarter-final exit to eventual third placed side Sweden.
United will be desperate not to repeat last year’s disaster of exiting the competition at the group stages, but will need to be wary as Cluj have already knocked out Basel’s conquerors from last season, Swiss side FC Basel.
