Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists he won't consider a permeant deal for Nuri Sahin until the end of the season.

The Turkish midfielder is on loan from Real Madrid, and has enjoyed an excellent start to his Anfield career, scoring two in the Capital One Cup, and another against Norwich in the Premier League last weekend.

The former-Dortmund star failed to settle under Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid, and was made available for loan this summer.

Liverpool reportedly beat off competition from Arsenal to sign the midfielder on loan, and after a series of eye-catching performances, Liverpool were thought to be considering a permeant move.

But Rodgers has revealed that will have to wait until next summer.

"I don't look beyond the loan period because there are lots of things which will determine whether he ever came here [permanently]," said Rodgers on

"One has to be availability. Jose [Mourinho] may decide after one year playing he is really the type of player he wants around his squad.

"Two: He might not be affordable. Affordability is important as well. We'd all love Lionel Messi but whether you can afford him or he's available is another thing."

Rodgers recorded his first league win as Liverpool manager at Norwich last weekend, with Reds striker Luis Suarez bagging a hat-trick.

Sahin chalked up a couple of assists to go with his goal at Carrow Road, and Rodgers says if he continues to perform at a high level, Liverpool would consider approaching Real Madrid to negotiate a deal.

"If he finds he enjoys it here and he fits into the way we work, which I am sure he would do because he is a good guy and understands the game tactically and is prepared to fight for the club, then that is something come the end of the season we will talk about," said Rodgers.

"But at this stage it is way too early."

Liverpool face Udinese in the Europa League on Thursday evening, before welcoming Stoke City to Anfield in the Premier League next weekend.

Sahin could play against Udinese on Thursday as he looks to get up to speed fitness-wise after a disjointed pre-season, but Rodgers is expected to rest many of his big names against the Italians in anticipation of the visit of Tony Pulis' Stoke.
