Arsenal star: We can win Champions League
Arsenal news: Carl Jenkinson confident Gunners can go all the way in Champions League
If Chelsea could do it last year, then Arsenal are more than capable of winning the Champions League this year, according to young star Carl Jenkinson.
The Gunners full-back was speaking ahead of the Champions League Group B clash with Greek champions Olympiacos at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.
Arsenal were slightly unlucky to be on the receiving end of a 2-1 defeat to Roberto di Matteo’s side last Saturday in the teams’ Premier League clash, and fortune played a big part in the Blues’ Didier Drogba inspired triumph in Munich last season – something Jenkinson thinks Arsene Wenger’s side can emulate, though he cites quality, rather than fortune, as the reason why.
“If Chelsea can do it, then we can do it. There’s nothing stopping us going all the way,” he told the club’s official website.
“We’ve just got to make sure we perform to how we can do in this competition and I believe if we do, we will progress.”
Roman Abramovich watched his expensively assembled side overcome Bundesliga side Bayern Munich in their own Allianz Arena in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.
Arsenal will not be one of the early bookies’ favourites for the trophy, but they have been to the final before, in 2006, where the Gunners' ten-men fell to two late goals against Barcelona in Paris.
