The agent of Jo Inge Berget has confirmed he has been in touch with Newcastle United, although would not reveal if the two parties had discussed the Molde midfielder.
Berget was a championship winner with Molde - managed by Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - last season and was rewarded with his Norway debut earlier this year following a number of impressive displays.
According to The Sun, the 22-year-old is a target for Alan Pardew and the Newcastle boss is considering making a £2 million January bid for the Norwegian.
Pardew has already made contact with Jim Solbakken, agent to Berget and several other players, to discuss some potential deals - but could not confirm if the latter had been on the agenda.
Berget signed for Molde from Udinese in 2011 and has scored 12 goals in 38 appearances for the club, operating both in midfield and up front.
Should he move to St James' Park, Berget would provide Pardew with a versatile option able to challenge for a starting spot in a number of positions.
