Liverpool teen sensation close to England debut

Liverpool starlet Raheem Sterling is reportedly set to get another call-up to the senior England squad and could make his debut in the coming World Cup qualifiers.

The Reds winger was a late call-up to Roy Hodgson’s last squad for the clash with Ukraine at Wembley, but did not get on the pitch as the Three Lions boss said it was merely for the new Anfield star to gain some experience.

Now the Daily Mail is reporting that Hodgson is seriously considering retaining the 17-year-old after his continuing progress saw him become a first team regular under new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.

England’s next qualifiers are a home tie with minnows San Marino, then a tough clash away at Poland, and the report claims Hodgson has been so impressed by the teenager brought to Merseyside from the QPR academy ranks, he is ready to take him from Stuart Pearce’s Under-21 side.

It has been a rapid rise to prominence for Sterling and the report also claims Liverpool are preparing to offer him a new contract when he turns 18 in December.
