Liverpool starlet Raheem Sterling and Manchester United teenager Nick Powell have received call-ups to the England under-21's.

The Reds winger has enjoyed a stunning start to the Premier League season, and was called up by Roy Hodgson for England's recent match against Ukraine last month, although the 17-year-old did not play.

Sterling has now dropped down to the under-21's and the Liverpool midfielder in line for his first appearance for Stuart Pearce's side. The Liverpool starlet has broke into the Anfield club's first-team this season under new boss Brendan Rodgers.

Manchester United youngster Nick Powell and Tottenham winger Andros Townsend are also new faces called up to Pearce's side for the first time.

Powell joined Manchester United this summer from Crewe Alexandra, and scored his first goal in his first Premier League appearance at Old Trafford against Wigan.

The 18-year-old midfielder has been labelled the 'new Paul Scholes' and Sir Alex Ferguson has high hopes for the United youngster.

Townsend has appeared sporadically from the Tottenham bench, and scored for Andre Villas-Boas's side in their recent Capital One Cup match against Carlisle.
