United face Italian fight over Admira Wacker starlet
Manchester United transfer news: Marcel Sabitzer linked with Juventus move
Manchester United face competition from Juventus in the race to sign highly-rated Austrian international Marcel Sabitzer.
The 18-year-old forward has been earning rave reviews at Admira Wacker in the Austrian Bundesliga, helping Dietmar Kuhnbauer’s side to a third-place finish last term.
His performances have put Juventus general director Beppe Marotta and director Fabio Parartici on alert, with reports in Italy claiming the duo have been monitoring Sabitzer over the last fortnight.
CalcioLine goes on to claim that the player would cost in the region of €2 million, thanks largely to the fact that his current contract at the Trenkwalder Arena expires in the summer of 2013.
Manchester United were first linked with a move for the player last week, with Italian website Virgilio claiming Sir Alex Ferguson was interested in bringing the player to Old Trafford after he’d impressed scouts this season.
Admira Wacker will understandably be keen to keep the one-cap teenager on their books, but with such high-profile interest from some of Europe’s top clubs, it could be difficult.
And, with such a low price tag on the teenager’s head, Manchester United would certainly have no issue with spending the money if Ferguson believes Sabitzer can add to his squad.
The Scot spent big on bringing Nick Powell to the Premier League from Crewe Alexandra in the summer, and Sabitzer would be another one purchased with a potential eye on the Red Devils' future.
