Spurs suffer £4m Swedish defender setback
Tottenham transfer news: West Brom defender Jonas Olsson set for contract u-turn
West Brom defender Jonas Olsson is considering performing a major U-turn by committing his long-term future to the club, less than three months after he was set to sign for Tottenham.
ESPN Soccernet reports how the 29-year-old seemed intent on leaving The Hawthorns in August, when a £4million move to north London had all but been finalised.
However, the White Hart Lane departure of Harry Redknapp seemed to scupper the deal, with newly-appointed Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas preferring other targets.
Now the Sweden international looks to be moving towards signing a new contract with the Baggies, after negotiations were opened between his agent Martin Dahlin, and the club's sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth.
Albion coach Steve Clarke is hopeful a new deal can be agreed: "Jonas' discussions are ongoing. The fact that his agent was here tells you that.
"In the matches he has played since I have been here, Jonas has been terrific. The contract talks certainly haven't been playing on his mind."
Olsson is the only one of West Brom's key players who has not signed a long-term deal with the club and is in the final year of his current contract.
Atletico Madrid and Galatasaray retain an interest in the centre-back, who moved to England for just £600,000 from Heerenveen, but it is unclear whether Tottenham are still keen on his signature.
